MAKE YOUR OWN RULES!!!
I had gone to a book shop today... And came across a lot of people buying books like "You can win", "7 habits of effective people", "How to win friends?" and the likes of it.
I had always thought that our personality culminates from our own experiences... Do we need rules regarding how to live our life? Ironically, these books are called "Self help" books... Isn't it our life, after all and what better way to learn from our own experiences? Living life is not like learning Science or maths from a book...
Its the extremely dispirited ones or those who are fond of aping others' life who need such books. The rest of us needn't rely on these handbooks on how to live a life that is our's.

I totally disagree with your opinion. These sort of books are not only for learning but to change your personality as you desire or wish to become. Many a times we wish we had (xyz) quality which we might lack. These books teaches you and makes your learn how to acquaire them. There is a saying 'It is a book if only it teaches'. These books do that. You cannot afford to wait or change your personality till such time your life experience changes you. Today it is a fast moving world and if you are to climb or reach your goal you need to acquire certain skill sets which are not exsisting in you. These books help you do that. Self-help means to analyse your strenghts and weaknesses by yourself and try to change it. There is no better person other than 'YOU' who knows 'YOURSELF' better. So it makes sense to say 'SELF HELP'.
